A believe this old Western Maryland Railroad station opened around 1896.

The Westminster station is listed on a schedule from 1880.  It is listed between New Windsor and Gettysburg (Pa.)

Westminster Maryland Freight Station Still Stands and converted

I’ve read that the old Westminster Train Station, which was later replaced by the stone building above, was moved by train to nearby New Windsor, but I’m not sure the accuracy of the report , and I can’t remember where I read it.

In the early 1960’s, the old train station in Westminster was torn down for a new bank building. I only found one brief mention to this in researching the Town which I though was a bit odd. I even found a story about Main Street and the changes that it was undergoing, with no mention of the train station.
Further research found that the old Western Maryland Railroad depot was torn down around 1961 not for a bank building, but for the new bank’s parking lot. It was noted that part of the decision to tear down the old station was due to there no longer being passenger service at the station.

In the 1990’s there was talk about building a “new” station, to connect to the light rail system to Baltimore and to be a tourist style center, but it never was built.
