Pennsylvania Railroad
West side of Baltimore, Pennsylvania Avenue near Laurens Street
Between Penn Station (Charles St – North) to Edmondson Avenue Station (South)
My brother used to tell me about an old train station st sat right behind the old Pennsylvania Market in West Baltimore. I could never actually picture it as he explained it to me. I was surprised little was written in it, but I managed to find a few photos of the old station and wandered up that way and took a current picture as well. The postcard gives you a good idea of how the old station once looked.
We found an article dated 1906, which went over all of the train stations in Baltimore City, and there weren’t many knid words to say the least. Of the Pennsylvania Avenue Station, it was said ” An underground reservoir of gas and smoke”. That was one of the kinder comments of the other stations.
