Hydes Station – Baltimore County
Maryland & Pennsylvania Railroad
I Found a reference from 1884 of a Hyland Station and a new post office being opened McIntire. Looking all over my references, this is the only place I can think might be it.
1890’s – I’ll have the exact year soon, but I read where there was a blizzard that trapped two trains near Hydes Station. The storm was so bad that the train wasn’t able to be freed for two days.
In a 1961 article in the Baltimore Sun regarding the old Station, it was brought up that the Railroad station went by the name of “Hyde” while the post office was called “Hyde’s”, although no one knew why. The story went on that when the train would pull into the station, the conductor would call out ” Hyde….Hyde…Hyde” and those unfamiliar with the station would wonder why.
