Photo Postcard taken from what I believe is the 1970’s, showing the old Chestertown Station before it was renovated and restored. Many of the photos of Maryland depots I have found from the 1960’s and 1970’s show a station in dire need of renovation, and just about of the stations I have found have been restored.
In 1909, a fire at a nearby business nearly caught the little station, but a nearby Volunteer Fire Company was able to save the depot building.
From what I understand, there was still regular train service from the station into the 1950’s.
In 2014, there was a nice article about the Chestertown Railroad station and a small ( H.O.) model made after it. According to the article, it was more of a diorama, and was modeled after the station and was on display in the town. Last I heard, it was on display at the Kent County Visitor’s Center in Chestertown and was modeled for the year 1937.
Over the years, the station has been moved several feet from the original location. it recently had a shingle roof replaced on the building.
