In the 1890’s , the Relay station was the site of a great Fourth of July celebration. The event ended around 1900. One wing of the old station was known as the Viaduct Hotel. During the celebration, members in the crown would cross back and forth along the huge stone viaduct. There appears to have been a small walkway across the Viaduct that people could walk across that was closed in 1950, the same year the old station was torn down .
This station was on the southern tip of Baltimore County near Howard County. The old station was abandoned years ago and sat vacant until it was finally torn down, in the 1950. I’ve read stories of people taking a train from Baltimore to Relay, to picnic and just get away from the City. There was apparently a small spring just across from the station where one could get a drink.
To make matters more confusing, there was also a station called Relay near Lake Roland in Baltimore County.
