Iglehart Station

Iglehart, a village in Anne Arundel County;
southeast of Crownsville

Often the area around a railroad station is used as a common name for the area around the station, while having nothing to do with the actual station. We reference this as it does show the station was operating at the time.
1882 – a building burned near the station on a farm. The station was mentioned for reference.
1884 – Another article was found of a barn burning down near the Iglehart Station, along the Annapolis and Elkridge Railroad Line.
1886 – A reference was found mentioning Iglehart Mansion near the Station, likely where the station got it’s name from .
1892 – a burglar near the Iglehart Station was stopped in his attack by a woman in the home. Two shots were fired at the burglar during his escape, and at the time his identity was unknown, although the homeowner put out a $100 reward for information on who he was. If I did the math right on that, that would make the reward for his identity over $3,000 by todays standards.
Also in 1892, talks were being conducted for making a road from the station.
In 1895, a stolen bike was found near the Iglehart Station, minus the accessories that had been on it.
A stolen horse was also found near the station that year.
1899 – a real estate ad for almost 200 acres of land near the Iglehart Station.
1906 – It appears that lynching occurred near the Iglehart Station that year.
1907 – Someone attempted to wreck a train by creating a track obstruction. The crew observed the obstruction before there was an accident and arrests were expected.
1911 – A Thanksgiving day Trap shooting contest is advertised for Iglehart Station. Pigs, duck and Chickens were the prizes. A hill near the station was the site of a wrecked carriage and horse, although no injuries were reported.
1912 – Real Estate ad for land near the station.
1919 – An article spoke of how the station looked like a lumber yard with all te trees nearby for area construction.
1920 – a railroad was knocked off track near the station. No injuries were mentioned and there had been a similar incident at the same location earlier in the month.

In 1920 , it was just a short bus trip from Iglehart station to nearby Sherwood Forest, right on the river.
