South High Street – 808 East Fayette Street
A few years ago I heard from Gretta who told me about Hosbach Motors and sent me a few pics as well of the old Dealership. At the time, my researching did not find much, but as I looked more, I found plenty of information on Hosbach Motors.
In 1888, Hosbach opened as a carriage builder and seller. By 1916, they were selling cars out of 10 North High Street. By 1922, Hosbach was a authorized Ford Dealership, showing both the High Street address and a service station on High Street as well at 112-118 North High Street , and a second address of 808-814 East Fayette Street. Later ads would mention that they are oppposite the Shot Tower. The location on East Fayette Street is home now of the main post office.
In 1924, Hosbach purchased the Northwest corner of Fayette and High Street, to show and see Ford Cars. Mention of Hosbach Motors stopped by 1940. A check of the address showed Star Motor Co selling from the location, likely stock from Court actions of the Hosbach inventory.
