Hobb’s Station

Caroline County, Maryland

Hobb’s is just East, outside of Denton Maryland.

In 1900, a man was found unconscious on the tracks near Hobbs. The man was from Georgia and headed to Delaware and appears to have fallen off the freight train. The next reference we found was for “Wheat for Purchase” listed in an ad for 1901. Several stations along the QARR ( Queen Anne’s Railroad ) were being targeted for available wheat that year. Also in 1901, the little depot was broken into through a force window and several dollars being taken.
In 1902, the depot was struck by lightning but did not suffer much damage as a result.
In 1903, Officials of the OARR were talking about a rail extension from the Hobbs Station to the Virginia State Line, South of the Station.
In 1914, there was another break in at the Depot, this time where liquor was taken. In 1927, there was a break in at the Hobbs Store, Next to the Depot, but the person did not escape with anything. No further references for the Hobbs Depot were found after 1927.

One of my favorite sources, the 1904 Gazetteer by Henry Gannett does make a reference to Hobbs as a Post Village, but makes no reference at all of a depot being there.
