Finksburg / Asbestos Train Depot

Western Maryland Railroad – Carroll County Maryland

I wasn’t sure there had been a Finksburg Train Station, but I was proved wrong.
In 1880 – The station was moved about a mile up the road. The old station was renamed Glen Falls.
In 1882 – a road from Finksburg to the Train Depot was set to be built.
1883 – A cannery was opened very near the Finksburg Train Depot.
Also in 1883 – A child attempting to cross the train was struck and killed by a train.
1885 – Storms flooded the road to the depot.
1889 – A check of a Western Maryland Railroad Schedule found Finksburg between stations at Emory Grove and Carrollton.
1902 – A man was struck and killed by a train.
1905 WMRR Schedule shows Finksburg between Glen Falls & Carrollton Stations.
1913 – WMRR changes the name of the Finksburg Depot to Asbestos Station , in what appears to have been an advertising attempt by an area business. Finksburg residents were not happy.
