Queen Anne’s Railroad , Caroline County, Maryland
Well, I have finally found a little but of information on the Downes Station, which was just West of Denton if I remember correctly. In 1937, the small station, which had not been used as a railroad station for some time, was moved to West Denton and “Redden’s Park”, to be converted into a bungalow for rent.
Downes Station, according to the article, was used mainly by people of Ridgely catching a train to Baltimore. In the mid 1920’s, the depot was moved from the Railroad Tracks and placed along the side of the street, used as a store. Later it was used as a warehouse, Later it was moved from Downes to ” Denton Bridge” . That is a distance of 4 1/2 miles which was completed in about an hour. The move later from the bridge apparently required more time to “Redden’s Park”. So far, we have yet to find anything on Redden’s Park”, but from what we can tell it was on the West end of Town near the bridge.
From what I can tell, the name Redden was a known last name in Denton and the Park was likely a property owned by that family and not actually a park,
