Cecil County, Maryland – Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad
Going all the way back to 1885, a real estate ad for a mansion , known as ” Helena” and “Campbell’s Discovery” is listed , mentioning the Charlestown Depot two miles away.
In the late 1800’s , several books were published by Charles P Dare, regarding the railroad sights along the Philadelphia, Wilmington & Baltimore Railroad. It mentions the Charleston Station as three miles South of North East Station. The Town is located on the North East River and advises there were beautiful views of the Chesapeake Bay.
Charlestown is one of Maryland’s oldest towns, dating back to 1742. Burned by the British in 1813, but rebuilt years later.
