Camp Parole , WB&A – 1908

The “X” on the photograph marks the spot where two trains collided around 1908. From what we an gather, at least one person died as a result.

There was another railroad accident in 1912, apparently due to fog.

In 1913, a car crashed into a stopped WB&A freight train at Camp Parole. That resulted in injuries but was not fatal.
Also in 1913, there was talk about ending the service from Annapolis to Camp Parole, but there appears to have been much outcry on that.
In 1915, a nearby shop owner was on his back back to Annapolis via the Camp Parole Station and was robbed and injured.

While I have just started our page on this station, I found at least one article worthy of posting early. I wasn’t sure what “Camp Parole ” was named after, but it appears to have been a camp from the Civil War Era where captured Union soldiers, by the Confederates, were held until they could be returned home, under the condition they would not return to fight. ( I hope I got that right ). There were two other camps like this in Missouri and Ohio.
One article from 1931 was interesting. The postmaster of Camp Parole mentioned that trains would pull up and a lone gentleman would get off the train and just walk off into the area. They believed these were people would had spent time, often years, at Camp Parole.
