Belair Market
The Belair Market dates back to 1818 , in a area where vendors would sell produce and goods off of the street. In 1846, the City worked to organize the Market and Belair Market was started.

Monday and Thursday were Market Days at the Canton Market , and by 1940, it was being described as ” mere shed” and by 1944, it was completely closed down and converted into a recreation Center for the City.

Hollins Market was a very popular market in Southwestern Baltimore City. In 1936, during the Hollins Market Centennial Parade, the parade route went from the Market to City Hall. The line took just about an hour to run the route, of which was watched by about 100,000 spectators.
in 1933, there was a shootout with Baltimore City Police and a man who had just shot a saloon keeper. As the subject attempted to get away, he was approached by the Officer, which resulted in the shootout. No one was killed but a little girl with her mom at the Market had her shoe struck by a bullet.
In 1940, Baltimore Police were handing out court summons to vendors blocking the nearby streets, leaving the temporary stalls up when the market had closed.
Baltimore City Police Officer Howard Kermeyer worked the Southwestern District foot post for Hollins Market for 32 years. He was often helped by a stall vendor , Cocetta Serio, also known as ” Mom” who was known to keep the peace at the market if things got a bit heated.
