Yes, there was a car Dealership just South of Key Highway on Light Street. If I’m not mistaken, the building had also been used for a movie theatre prior to that. While the building still stands, it has been renovated over the years. I believe Hobelmann Volkswagen moved in 1971 to Glen Burnie, Maryland, Hobelmann Volkswagen was advertising that they had set up shop at Ritchie Highway and Mountain Rd. ( 51 Mountain road to be exact ) . In 1971, there were several Volkswagen Dealers around Baltimore, including Forty West Volkswagen ( 6624 Baltimore National Pike, Bill Kirk Volkswagen ( Reisterstown Road, 2 miles North of the Beltway ) , Towson Valley Volkswagen ( 9800 York Rd ) , & Closs Volkswagen ( 8001 Belair Rd ) , In 1950, I began to see photos of the Volkswagen Beetle at Trade and Car shows. Soon they would be everywhere.
