Here’s what we have so far for Fox Chevrolet. In 1931, There was a Fox ‘s at Park Avenue and Chase Street, selling a Chevrolet Roadster. Around 1933 is the first ad I found for Fox at South Hanover Street and McComas. The early ads for Fox were very simple and to the point, and so far I have yet to find any type of grand opening ad. A few years later, they dropped the McComas Street reference and went to 2020 to 2050 South Hanover Street, and in the end, just cut it down to 2020 South Hanover Street. In one ad, they mention the ” Unusual View ” of the harbor they had.
They stayed at this address up until 1970, when Fox Chevrolet moved out West, to 6633 Security Blvd. in Baltimore County. In the final years of being opened in Baltimore City, Fox had an ad mentioning ” Hanover Street Bridge open to Fox”, likely due to construction along Hanover Street. Construction would evolve the entire intersection over the years,where the Interstate 95 overpass would pass directly overhead, and recent construction in the block for new buildings. I doubt anything of the old Fox Chevrolet dealership on Hanover Street exist today, although I did find an article of the old Fox Dealership on Hanover Street being used for auto auctions in 1974. In 1975, the old Fox Dealership was the ” Christmas Factory Outlet Store” at 2020 South Hanover Street.
In 1971, Fox posted the ad ” Go West” pointing customers to the new location on Security Boulevard. They continued at this location and opened branches in Laurel and Timonium that I can tell as well.
