Formerly Union Station
“Union” referred to the Union of different railroads, and not the Union of the South
Baltimore’s Main Train Station today – Serves Amtrak today.
In 1947, the Mayor of Baltimore was requesting that the Pennsylvania Railroad replace the station. The complaints were that the station got too crowded, needed to be modernized, and the Jones Falls, which ran in front of the station, needed to be covered up. The old station was not torn down, and the Jones Falls Expressway ended up covering the waterway.
The Station opened as Union Station and was later changed to Pennsylvania Station.
