1920 and before
The Beginning of a long history of Baltimore Car Dealerships presented by Kilduffs.Net. Here we go…..

Before we begin, this old 1920 ad stresses someone to insure the new car purchase. With that out of the way…..

Back in the 1920’s, gas stations were just begining to pop up. Kilduffs.Net has a page for Baltimore and Maryland gas stations from way then. The stations back then were all about gassing up and repairing your car and did not have snacks and drinks as a option. Kilduffs.Net has a page for the 1920’s era gas stations found in Baltimore.

A very early (1912) ad for the Spoerer Car was listed for South Carey Street. In 1912, a few ads were found for cars for sale, but there were very few dealerships listed.

1920 is the year I began to find more ads listed for Baltimore Car Dealerships and brands, most of which did not survive. Many of these early dealerships also did not survive and the properties were sold to others giving their try at opening a car dealership. The 1000 block of Cathedral Street was a popular location for early car sales lots as was the 1000 block of Morton Street, and nearby Mount Royal Avenue.

We did not find many more references to the Union Motor Car Company , but this is one of the first ads were found showing Mount Royal Avenue, which in the coming years would be Baltimore first hub of Car Dealerships.

By the 1920’s, Mount Royal was begining to show the Mount Royal addresses being used for selling cars, both new and used.

Years ago, Kilduffs.com posted a page for Baltimore Car sales from the 1920’s.
Above is the Kilduffs.Com link for our earlier page.
