Arnold Station – Maryland

Anne Arundel County, Md.

A station on the Post Village of Arnold. Along the Baltimore & Annapolis Short Line Railroad.
The name Thomas H. Arnold is mentioned in one article about the store operated out of the station.

In 1906, an article in the Baltimore Sun mentioned Arnold Station as land along the nearby Severn River was being slated for development. Months later, another ad showed lots available for sale.

Also in 1906, a badly mangled body was found on the tracks. The man who died apparently was a Civil War Veteran.
A home nearby Arnold’s Station was burned to the ground. The event made the local paper, and as of the writing of the article, no cause was known for the blaze.
In 1911, a boulevard was being planned between Arnold’s Station and Glen Burnie Maryland. I believe that road goes by the name Ritchie Highway today.
The Railroad office was part of a real estate deal for land being sold from Arnold’s Station.
A bike was stolen by two boys from Baltimore near Arnold’s Station but both were arrested in the area.

By 1915, part of the area near the station goes by the name Arnold Heights.
Tate’s Canning Factory near the station was having issues with a strike written about in 1915 .
That same year, a storm hit the Arnold Station area, resulting in wide spread damage.
1924, saw a crash of a train and car near the station . The crash occurred 400 feet from the station. There was lost of life in reference to this accident.
In 1940, Arnold Station was mentioned of an accident that occurred nearby , but it is not believed a train was involved in that accident.
From 1940 and beyond, little is mentioned of the station. By 1970, the area was going by the name ” Arnold Station ” and mentioned all types of things like shopping centers, etc.
