Baltimore Sports ( Past ) : Kilduffs Look at the Sports Past around Town

Ad for Sports in Baltimore circa 1922

Kilduffs.net will soon have a page of Baltimore’s Sports past for you to enjoy.

Baltimore’s Basketball team was the ” Baltimore Bullets” The team played at the ” Civic Center” for years and before that played at the Coliseum on North Monroe Street before that . If I’m reading the articles right, they played teams of New York and Los Angeles, but in earlier years, played teams from Allentown Pa.
In 1952, a two alarm fire damaged the Coliseum enough to cancel a pending wrestling match there.
In 1951, there was a scheduled local boxing match at the Coliseum. The capacity of the Coliseum was 4,500 people. I’m still looking for an exact year opening of the Coliseum.
In the late 1940’s, there was talk of a new indoor arena, and years later the ” Civic Center” was built in downtown Baltimore. In 1944, there were talks of a sport arena, with a roof, being built on the Baltimore reservoir site, near North Avenue and Howard Street. That was never built.
